It was a sad day in the culinary world yesterday as famed chef Charlie Trotter, who put Chicago on the culinary map, passed away suddenly at the young age of 54. I had to pleasure of eating at his namesake restaurant twice in my life and met him on a few occasions at special events in the Chicago area. A few of my colleagues had the privilege to work in his kitchen. It was a sad day last year when, after 25 years, the doors on Armitage opened and closed for the last time. He was always a perfectionist and changing his menu daily in order “not to serve the same dish twice”. He shaped the culinary scene in Chicago and will be sorely missed…..
